Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells. Chemotherapy works by interfering with cancer cells that are trying to divide and multiply. The aim is to destroy cancer cells while causing the least possible damage to healthy cells.
You can find more information on chemotherapy for the type of cancer you have on the National Centre for Gynaecological Cancers webpage.
You will not receive your chemotherapy at KEMH. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital provides medical oncology services (chemotherapy) for public patients. St John of God at Subiaco and Murdoch, and Hollywood Private Hospital provide chemotherapy for private patients.
Other sites around Perth also provide chemotherapy including Royal Perth Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Peel Health Campus, Rockingham Hospital and Joondalup Health Campus. In country areas, chemotherapy may be available in Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany and Bunbury, however this will depend on your individual treatment plan.
Your medical oncologist will discuss the best option and location for you to receive your chemotherapy and get the best care.
