Picture of a nurse tending to a patient.Chemotherapy uses drugs to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells. Chemotherapy works by interfering with cancer cells that are trying to divide and multiply. The aim is to destroy cancer cells while causing the least possible damage to healthy cells.

More information on chemotherapy can be found on the National Centre for Gynaecological Cancers webpage.

And evi Q.

Chemotherapy is not provided at KEMH. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital provides medical oncology services (chemotherapy) for public patients. St John of God at Subiaco and Murdoch and Hollywood Private Hospital provide chemotherapy for private patients.

Other sites around Perth also provide chemotherapy including Royal Perth Hospital, Fremantle Hospital, Peel Health Campus, Rockingham Hospital and Joondalup Health Campus.  In country areas, chemotherapy may be available in Geraldton, Kalgoorlie, Esperance, Albany and Bunbury, but this would depend on your treatment plan.

The patient’s medical oncologist will discuss the best option and location for them to receive chemotherapy.
