Maternity and Neonatal Services
|There were 1425 deliveries at Osborne Park Hospital in 2016/2017 financial year. The unit has 4 delivery suite rooms and 20 obstetric beds and provides for low and medium risk deliveries. There are 6 consultant obstetricians and 4 GP-obstetricians providing obstetric services. In addition there are 5 registrars and 3 RMOs in training positions, who rotate from KEMH.
Osborne Park encourages early referrals, from 12 weeks. If women are referred before 19 weeks, OPH will provide the anatomical scans so that there is no out-of-pocket cost to women.
The hospital antenatal clinics operate with a multidisciplinary team approach, with consultant obstetricians, registrars and RMOs, midwives, dieticians and patient educators.
Credentialed GP-obstetricians provide antenatal care at their surgeries and intrapartum care at the hospital, and refer patients back to the usual family GP after birth. They see low risk patients and work with the assistance of the multidisciplinary team at the hospital. Women with risk factors such as a previous caesarean section are referred to specialist clinics.
Patients do not require private health insurance to be delivered at OPH. There is no out-of pocket cost for hospital services provided by GP-obstetricians but there may be consultation costs for antenatal visits at the GP surgeries. Patients can book appointments directly with the GP-obstetrician of choice.
