History

The Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) has been operational for more than 30 years, with the original centre opening on 5 January 1976. The original centre was located in North Perth, but was moved shortly after to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. Within the first 21/2 years the centre saw more than 200 cases. SARC then moved in 1986 and again in mid 2006 to where it is now located. The latest facility was established with the aid of $1.22 million allocated from Government funding and another $950 000 from the Womens and Childrens Health Service. In total, $2.17 million was spent on upgrading the centre. The current facility was designed to maintain a sense of confidentiality and a non-hospital environment.
