Pelvic Pain Clinic

The Pelvic Pain Clinic assess and manages women from across WA experiencing complex pelvic pain. This is a multidisciplinary service involving pain medicine specialists, clinical nurses, physiotherapists and psychologists. The team have ready access to other specialists (gynaecologists) and allied health services (dietetics and social work) to assist with the management of complex pain. A pelvic pain service is also available at Fiona Stanley Hospital for patients with multiple sources of pain, particularly widespread pain and those who have most of their healthcare at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

 

Clinical inclusion

Patients experiencing chronic pelvic pain not optimally controlled by standard general practice and gynaecological therapies.

WNHS at KEMH provides a Pelvic Mesh Complication Clinic in addition to the Pelvic Pain Clinic.

 

Clinical exclusion

Clinical picture dominated by extra-pelvic pain, fibromyalgia and substance use disorders – refer to pain management services at local hospital.

 

Frequency of clinic

Weekly.

 

Referral to include

  • CST – if age >25 years a current result and history (available via PRODA (external site)).
  • Information following gynaecological review, including consideration of therapy for suppression of endometriosis and exclusion of red flag symptoms.
  • Letters from treating medical practitioners.
  • Pelvic ultrasound or other relevant special investigations and imaging.
  • Detailed medical and surgical history.
  • Current clinical concerns.

 

Urgent referral

For patients requiring urgent review within seven days contact the On Call Gynaecology Registrar (or On Call Gynaecology Consultant if complex case) on (08) 6458 2222.

 

Referral process

All referrals from GPs to this clinic are sent to the Central Referral Service WA (CRS). Ensure you provide the relevant information in the referral to enable appropriate triage, including required investigation results and letters from treating medical practitioners if relevant and request pelvic pain clinic at WNHS.

Referrals using GP software that include all the relevant history and information are also welcome using CRS referral form templates (external site).
