Service coordination

A key role of the SPIMHP is working with different services to coordinate and support service provision for WA Health consumers and health professionals. Some of the ways SPIMHP staff work towards service coordination on a statewide level are:

  • Working with Health Service Providers, non-Government organisations and other stakeholders to support service improvement in the perinatal period.
  • Contributing to the development of mental health policies and guidelines relevant to the perinatal period.
  • Coordinating and supporting research into how we can better support families in the perinatal and infant periods.
  • Leading the development and implementation of the Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Model of Care (2016) document, which provides guidance for all Western Australian health professionals supporting families.
  • Co-chairing the Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Subnetwork Steering Group as part of the Mental Health Network.
  • Supporting and participating in other local clinical networks such as the Perinatal Mental Health Clinical Group, Clarkson under 5 PIMH interest group, the South Metro Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (SMPiMH) Clinical Network Group.
  • Coordinating a regular symposium bringing staff together from across WA to hear about new research and directions.
  • Working collaboratively with community organisations and NGOs to provide advice and expertise on a range of programs and resources.
