New Sustainability Leaders program and our first award winner! 03 October 2022 The program Our innovative team in the Climate and Sustainability program have launched their latest initiative to green our services called ‘Sustainability Leaders’. So far over 147 staff members have joined the program! One element of the initiative known as ‘Champions Corner’ is to identify a passionate staff member working hard on sustainability and climate initiatives and award them the title of ‘Sustainability Leader of the Month’. To be awarded, the person must: have been driving change throughout the month and advocating for the program taken initiative to make sustainable choices and encourage those around them to better their department be passionate for the cause and interested in the future of the organisations Climate & Sustainability goals; and be a great team player and overall sustainability leader. Paula Wells - Midwife of the Year 23 September 2022 "Paula always listened to and respected my concerns, even if they were silly, and helped me overcome the trauma of my first birth. She assisted me to have a completely pain free birth and overcome my fear of childbirth. I am indebted to Paula and so grateful to her for her patience, time and energy in enabling me to have a positive birth experience this time around." This heartfelt message is one of the many reasons neither staff nor patients at King Edward Memorial Hospital would have been surprised to see Paula Wells awarded Australian Midwife of the Year earlier this month. Message from the Chief Executive 09 September 2022 We are saddened to learn of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II overnight. Her devotion to country was exemplified by her care and integrity, and a lifetime of service leading the Commonwealth and her country through significant change. Celebrating our dedicated staff! 24 August 2022 Lindsay Brennand WNHS Nursing and Midwifery Manager - Corporate and Informatics, has been recognised as the WNHS Employee of the Month for July. Lindsay was nominated by her colleagues for being a pillar of support for them, both professionally and personally. The judges said Lindsay is a thoughtful and considerate member of the team, always checking in to see how staff members are coping. She exemplifies the NMHS Values, especially those of Care, Respect and Teamwork in her daily work. Celebrating our dedicated staff! 11 August 2022 Christine Atkinson, Clinical Midwife & Acting Area Manager has been recognised as the WNHS Employee of the Month for June 2022. Christine was nominated twice by her colleagues for her amazing work ethic in going above and beyond to support her team with additional duties across both OPH and KEMH when staff were furloughed due to COVID-19. Christine voluntarily opted to work overtime to cover the KEMH A/Area Manager role, where in a short time she was able to implement consistent rostering principle guidelines and free up clinical staff to do clinical work during the COVID shortfall. Christine's nominator said she is a team-player and always the first to offer to assist staff where required, ensuring birthing women receive the care they need when they need it.
