  • WANMEA finalists WNHS
Meet our WNHS WA Nursing and Midwifery Awards finalists 06 May 2025 In the lead up the 2025 Western Australia Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards on 10 May, we are shining a spotlight on our finalists from our Women and Newborn Service. Meet Eloise Congratulations to Eloise Pascoe, who is a finalist in Graduate of the Year category. Eloise works in Midwifery Group Practice 4 at Women and Newborn Health Service. The midwife is passionate about providing care to women and supporting them to bring babies into the world. Growing up, Eloise said she greatly admired her aunty and grandmother who were both midwives and the warm way in which they talked about their profession, which made her curious about pursing a career as a midwife. “In Midwifery Group Practice you provide every aspect of the woman’s care. You educate them through antenatal appointments; you empower them through birth and then you support them with breastfeeding and postnatal...
  • Infant being immunised
New RSV immunisation options 03 April 2025 For the first time, RSV immunisation is now available to Western Australians both during pregnancy, and for eligible babies and children born from 1 October 2023. RSV is a highly infectious respiratory virus that infects over half of all babies in their first year of life. Prior to 2024, around 1,000 WA babies were admitted to hospital with RSV each year. In 2024, the RSV infant immunisation progr...

  • April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month 17 April 2024 April marks Sexual Assault Awareness Month and it is a timely reminder of how we can contribute to reducing sexual violence. Talking about consent and sexual assault matters, and it can help to raise awareness and prevent sexual violence. Staff at the Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC) can provide support and help make a difference to survivors of sexual assault across WA. If you live with past trauma, it is recognised that healthcare appointments may be difficult. Your wellbeing is very important, and you can have a say in how you would like to be treated by a healthcare provider. SARC has developed a Sensitive Practice Request Form to help you have a say in things that will get you through your healthcare appointment. It also helps healthcare providers with making sure your needs are met in a safe and comfortable environment. You can print out the Sensitive Practice Request form or ...
  • The Gooding brothers
Brotherly love – Live kidney donation 14 March 2024 A Goldfields truck driver has provided the ultimate act of love by donating a kidney to his brother. It was a routine blood test that unveiled Kim Gooding's kidneys were not working well, and he had chronic kidney disease. The father of two boy's health deteriorated quickly after the diagnosis, and he underwent regular dialysis at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital's Renal Unit. However, with little improvement it became obvious he would need a kidney transplant. For around 1,800 Australians currently on the organ transplant waitlist, it can be a matter of life and death. There are an additional 14,000 people on dialysis, some of whom may benefit from a kidney transplant. Kim's older brother Andrew said, we never had a conversation about it, I just went and got tested and I was a match. It was the ultimate gift, a second shot at life, a live kidney transplant just before Christmas 2023. The b...
  • Cuddle Cot donated in memory of baby Tidus
Cuddle Cot donated in memory of baby Tidus 11 January 2024 Osborne Park Hospital has received the donation of a Cuddle Cot from a family who experienced the tragedy of a baby born still and wanted to support others going through the same experience. Cuddle Cots provide invaluable support to families during a time of grief and loss and allow parents and their loved ones to spend precious time before saying their final goodbyes to their littlest loved ones. A Cuddle Cot is a bassinet cooling system that enables families to keep their baby close, create beautiful memories and spend time with their babies before they say goodbye. After the passing of their precious baby Tidus in October 2022, Alisha and Brent were determined to provide other parents with the same opportunity to get to know their little ones before they say goodbye. The family raised more than $6,500 in loving memory of Tidus to provide comfort, connection and support to familie...
